After the Miami trip with the Copy.ai team, I came up to the northern part of Florida to visit a friend of mine. We’re planning on collaborating on a number of projects coming soon and we’ve been having some incredible discussions. And doing so lakeside. The change of scenery really got my creative juices flowing. This is my view as I’m writing code and this newsletter:
I’ve got so many ideas flowing, I realized I need to start writing some code and riding the wave of momentum. Once I was able to stop looking at all the lizards, I got to work.
Start With A Template
I started by building a landing page template. One thing I realized from my work with Feather, I want to start separating the landing page from the actual app. This decouples it from the app project and allows me to make changes a lot easier. So I created a landing page template that I can use as the basis for all of my projects. It’s nothing too complex, just enough to get users to sign in.
I built a super basic page with the following sections:
The Hero - this is the part of the page “above the fold”. The goal here is to give the user a sense of what the product is and pique their interest enough to at least scroll down.
The Features - I went simple here: a section header, a brief blurb, and a screenshot of the app. I think this will be the easiest for most of the products I’m building.
The Social Proof - I’m using a tool called FameWall. This is a really cool product created by Goutham, an Indie maker that I follow on Twitter. I’ve only created a wall for Feather CRM so far, and will probably hide this on most products until I start getting testimonials, but it’s there in the template and I can use it or not. Or I might use the Feather testimonials, as I am mentioning that it’s powered by Feather. I haven’t decided yet.
Then there’s a pricing section. I found one I liked with 2 prices, and that’s what I’m going to stick with I think: a $1/month plan and a $5/month plan. Who Should I Unfollow? will also have a $5 single-time fee for unfollowing a bunch of people at once. But I don’t need to mention that on the landing page, so I excluded it from the template.
A Footer - super simple, mostly used to announce that it’s powered by Feather. And I’ve got some placeholder social links included, but I don’t know how many of them I’ll actually use.
Here’s the template repo I set up. Feel free to use it and modify it for your own use as needed. The various components with the exception of the FameWall piece are from TailwindUI. It’s not cheap, but I really like using it as the basis of most things I build. I’ve found that I can create things that look good easily with it and since I am not a designer, that’s something I really appreciate. Component design is something I find difficult. Well worth the cost.
The First Microsaas: Who Should I Unfollow?
Once I had the template repo created, I used it to create a landing page repo for the first microsaas I’m building: Who Should I Unfollow?
