So in the last issue, I was determined to go live, right?
Almost didn’t happen.
I was prepping the launch materials on Saturday and started to record a video of me using the app. And then I noticed it didn’t work right. So I started digging and realized something odd had happened. Somehow, there were requests clogging the system. Over 2000 of them, some duplicates, and Twitter wasn’t allowing me to make more unfollow requests at all.
As I dug, I realized a few things:
There was a bug that allowed a user to accidentally request all sorts of accounts be unfollowed (possibly all of the accounts he followed, not sure. Looks like the user clicked the button while things didn’t load and that made weird things happen. Still not 100% on how that happened, as it didn’t seem to be able to do so).
Twitter has an EXTRA rate limit on unfollowing accounts. As an app, I can only unfollow up to 500 people per day. This is an additional limit to the 50 I can unfollow for a single user in a 15 minute period. So that was fun to find out.
So I ended up opening a support request, clearing out the system’s requests and requesting that I be unblocked. It was…an adventure let’s say. But they did answer on a Sunday. And the matter was magically resolved.
For your enjoyment, feel free to read through my rollercoaster of emotions as I dealt with their responses:
But it was, importantly, resolved.
So I’m going ahead with launch!
Here’s a link to the launch page. I would really appreciate you sharing it with anyone you think my find it useful!
Let’s see what happens!
